Ngombe Planner (NP) is a mobile phone based data collection tool used to collect cattle productivity information (milk records), disease incidence and general practices in the livestock farm. NP has been succesfully tested in five sites in Kenya. It has been used to collect daily milk records as well as record husbandry practices carried out in the farm by the farmers themselves with support from site coordinators. NP is available in 3 platforms, Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD), as a Java App and as a Mobile App. The USSD platform is accessible from any phone which can connect to the network, while the Android and Java apps are accessible from Android and Java enabled phones respectively. The data collected is automatically send to the servers at ILRI where we have developed a preliminary data visualization platform.
